Flinn-Brown Fellows Julie Katsel (Tucson, 2014) and Tamara Prime (Tucson, 2014) will host the event, featuring panelists Bonnie Bazata, Ending Poverty Now program manager for Pima County; Tisha Tallman, CEO, Primavera Foundation; Pima County Board of Supervisors Vice Chair, the Honorable Rex Scott; Liz Morales, assistant city manager, City of Tucson; and Flinn-Brown Fellow Heath Vescovi-Chiordi (Tucson, 2023), economic development director, Pima County.
Katsel, assistant vice president, community relations at the University of Arizona, and Prime, COO of Primavera Foundation, will lead the conversation on the Pima County Prosperity Initiative a partnership between Pima County and the city of Tucson.
Through evidence-based research and strong community and researcher input over a year-long investigation, 13 policies were identified that shift focus from measures related primarily to alleviating suffering to longer-term, more upstream solutions. With strong community support, a team is working to shape a platform for the private, nonprofit, public, and faith sectors to engage and innovate towards the larger goal of poverty reduction and community prosperity.
